Routes into teaching TES.com?

anyone know anything about a training company called TES?

DD has signed up with them for teacher training - while I'm trying not to interfere and let her get on with it, my spidery senses are tingling a bit with them, I think she would be better going the TeachFirst route. She's in her 30's and this is a career change move. I think teaching is absolutely right for her (primary) but am a bit concerned now, having looked at their website.

Which route has she taken? I personally think ITT and PGCE courses tend to be well structured and supported, as well as building up to teaching a heavier timetable more slowly. TeachFirst seems more of a sink or swim approach depending on what schools you end up in. Despite being a career changer, teaching can be challenging and having the right training and support during that year is important.

She's doing an on the job route via the training company TES.com - which seems to be the Times Ed Supp massively branching out.

Last year she finished an MSc and I don't think wants to be back in the lecture theatre again.

Yes, i was a teacher, in the olden days (!), so know the pitfalls of the Working route, but she has friends in teaching who have done it. I was interested to see if anyone had experience of TES as a training provider. She's in her 30's so my input is sometimes welcomed..... I only offer it when I'm sure of my ground 😉

TES are a reputable organisation. I didn’t know that they provide ITT, but they are a well-known company within the education sector so anything she’s signed up to will be legitimate.

Thanks, it doesn't seem well known that they have moved into ITT, my friend who is recently retired ex primary school head didn't know, but hopefully their training is as good as their resources.

I qualified last year through the TES assessment only route. I found the support from the tutors was great but the online resources weren’t much help. Overall, they had the perfect programme for someone in my situation (40’s, working in a school but needing a quick route to QTS) and I would recommend them (and teaching as a career!)

@Onethingatatime Did you do planning all the class lessons, whilst you did this route.
I am trying to do that or straight to teaching route ?

I planned all my lessons which was 50% of the timetable. My teacher partner and I split it so that we alternated the core subjects and made sure I had taught all others over the course of the year. It is intense but the only viable way for me. Good luck whatever route you choose!

@catsrus how is your daughter getting on. I am just thinking of applying for the straight to teaching route tes.
Would like to know thankyou.

She's loving teaching, definitely the right choice for her - but very unimpressed with the TES course itself. She doesn't go into a great deal of detail - but whenever I have asked she is negative about the course materials - as @Onethingatatime noted up thread.

@Onethingatatime Did she take straight to teaching route ??
