EYFS teacher role advertised but responsibilities look like a EYFS lead position? Would it involve a TLR ?

I have attached job outline. Please tell me. It’s a 1 form school that requires improvement. Does that mean they will just throw me in deep end and push EYFS lead position on me ? If I went for it?

It does read as if you would be EYFS lead, but in small schools, someone still has to do every job. If a school only has one EYFS class, it would be odd if that person wasn't the EYFS lead. It wouldn't come with a TLR unless advertised as such, but you could try to negotiate for a higher MPS/UPS payment.

I would be m4 right now and m5 September. If I were successful what do you think I should ask and negotiate for?

I think the question is always more - what do you think you're worth? and what will you accept?

If you're desperate to leave your job, then you will be in a much worse position to negotiate than when you're just curious. Similarly, if there's only one candidate, things are different to if they're choosing from a strong field of 50.

Do you think you can meet the job description? Have you been involved in policy in the past? Have you been a subject leader? If you'll need lots of support, M5 might be fair, but if you'll be confident in the role, you could state M6 as your salary expectation. UPS only if you'd be comfortable with them turning you down for this reason.

If it's a maintained school they cannot pay you on the Upper Pay Scale unless you have been already been assessed as meeting the Threshold standards. I presume that's not the as you are currently on M4, but of course you might have been assessed in a previous school.

I don't think much of their attention to detail given that they seem to think that the current version of the STPCD is the 2014 one!

I think I would need support or some guidance to begin with but luckily it’s one form.

One form entry here - no TLRs for any position (KS leads or subject leads), senco is DHT so SEN is included in that and most people don’t progress beyond M6 because we have no budget for it.

You can try and negotiate but even if we only had one candidate for that job here, M6 would probably be as far as you’d get and then you’d sit there.

Depressedbarbie · 14/03/2025 21:51

I've only worked in one form entry schools. No tlrs. If you are the reception teacher you lead early years. Simples.

Looks like it’s less than one form entry if it’s a mixed Nursery / Reception class. I strongly suspect there won’t be TLRs for any of the phase leaders; it’s just the nature of very tiny schools. Some people love very small schools and feel the benefits outweigh the limitations.

I’d want to be as assured as possible that the school’s future is secure - have a look at admissions for the last few years and check if there is a falling roll. School closures are coming with the continuing decline in the birth rate and very small schools with a PAN of <15 will be vulnerable.

It also had ofsted in 2023 and recieved requires improvement for most areas. Says something about previous head teacher leaving just before.

I’ve just checked and they can have 210 but they currently have 185 students enrolled and last year they had 190 on roll? Says their nursery will be newly offered next sep - probs mixed with reception.
