Hi, I just need some advice. I don’t know if it’s worth in terms of my mental health to force or push myself into a permanent job, but I am moving up the ladder and will be m5 September so I’m no longer a cheaper teacher in primary. I am also studying part time msc psychology online and coming to the most difficult part of it now until next Christmas when I graduate. So I don’t know if I should just hold off?

Someone who has stayed as a supply give me some advice!?

Hi

I have been doing long term supply for many years

Pros - you can leave at short notice which is good if there a crisis

Cons - you usually have to wait 12 weeks to be paid to scale

  • if long term you may as well be permanent with the workload
  • there isn’t always work available
  • if you do supply for too long it may be difficult to get back into a permanent role
Good luck.

Set yourself a target for when you would like to get a permanent job and prepare a non-teaching Plan B…

Enjoy your studies. You might be better to stay on Supply until you finish your MSc

Good luck

Cons: as agency supply you can’t pay into teachers pension scheme, and nest etc which is offered as pension is no match
