Help.. I don't want my daughter at my school!

In September, I took on a TA job at a primary school and my daughter now goes to their nursery. She has another year left before I need to apply to primary schools but I really don't want her to join the school.

I love most of the staff but the school has a lot of issues with behaviour. So many kids having fights, shouting and swearing at staff, throwing things, getting physical... They just don't care about consequences and SLT etc. can't seem to cope.

Most of the kids are lovely but there are too many that affect everyone else badly. I see how much it is ruining others children's education and I also don't want my daughter learning this behaviour. I got pushed, hit, thrown things at and sworn at today.

I obviously don't want to stay here forever but I don't want to look for another job just yet, and I'm studying to be a teacher.

Is it possible to find another school for my daughter? I just don't get how I would manage drop-off and pick-up!!! Any advice would really be appreciated!

Of course it’s possible but how easy it is will depend entirely on what else is available in your area. You need to look at the local authority’s admissions website to work out which schools she has a reasonable chance of attending, based on distance from your home address, any fixed catchments, and any other criteria such as church attendance. Then you need to find out what wraparound options are available at those schools and if necessary get her name down for those too. I’d highly recommend looking for childminders who drop off and pick up at your preferred schools.

Sadly that kind of behaviour is becoming the normal. I teach secondary and live in a seemingly 'nice' area, with two children in primary - some of the things they say are shocking about how students behave. My day is a daily battle of wills.
