As the title says really..
Just been offered a position as a TA in a primary school. May involve working 1:1 with SEN when it is needed.
I'm really excited. I know people harp on about it being rubbish pay, but money isn't the reason I went for this, I'm there because I have a passion for the role, helping LOs achieve and contributing towards this after being a volunteer in a school, it's so rewarding to see!
I'm super excited to start, a couple of weeks yet.. so I'm just wondering if there are any fellow TAs or even teachers here who could give any useful tips or advice for a new starter?! Whether it's having anything handy in your bag or about the role in general.
Thank you ☺️

Buy a good coat. You’ll most likely have playground duties and, unless your school is in the shadow of a big hill, the wind will blow in straight from Siberia.

Fully prepared for this.. I think 🤣 I have 3 DC myself, I don't mind a bit of wind and rain if I need to!
Thank you 😊

Dont get involved in the office politics.
Have a thick skin- some teachers are downright rude and treat TA's like a skivvy. Most teachers are lovely and will value you, hopefully.
Have a bag of snacks and goodies for those days when you need a boost.
Good luck- you will be amazing!

The teachers and current TA's are so lovely and super supportive and friendly from a parent/volunteer perspective anyway, it is such a lovely school so I'm hoping and sure once I'm in there working my view won't change, and definitely don't plan to be getting into office politics - no time for that!
Snacks and goodies pointer is noted!!
Thank you so much, super excited. ☺️
