Hi all,
Can anyone tell me how to go about requesting to work part time? I’m considering doing this as I have a kid now.

TIA

Ask your headteacher. The worst they can say is no. Can you hang on until September? They are more likely to agree at the start of the academic year.

I can, I’m currently on maternity and not expected till end of the year.
thanks

You need to make the request formally, in writing as that then gives them a deadline by which they need to respond. A flexible working request is a legal process so don't just try to grab the head in the corridor.

Check what it says in your handbook about how to go about it, ours says! I'd definitely put it in writing to your HT with a deadline to respond, as per PP.

I work PT as a jobshare and my working days while fewer are so much longer than when I was FT to try and get everything done. I don't attend all the staff meetings as part-time yet I'm still expected to stay abreast of any updates etc, and I'm not given time to do that. My PPA is the first to get pushed aside or rolled over to the following week (if they remember). I feel I work harder PT than when I was FT. It's exhausting. But the time with my little ones is invaluable and I'd do it all again in a heartbeat.

Boy do it if you do 2 or 3 days max. 4 days is totally pointless - you'll do just as much work as ft for 20% less pay

Don't!!

I emailed my head as soon as I had decided on mat leave (about 2 months after the baby had been born I think) they said yes very quickly because they had time to plan for the next academic year.
