Major error on application form

As I have previously posted on here, I’m hugely underpaid. This will sound even more stupid but i dont regularly check my pay slip as the software confuses me and I keep having to reset my password.

When I completed a recent application for a role with a January start. It asked for current salary. I looked on the NASWT website and stated on the app form the pay I should be on along with my additional rate. We were told in a briefing weeks ago that this year we were moving to the new rate so i assumed I would be in receipt of that amount this year as my appraisals have been fine.

I have made a huge error now as I have stated an incorrect salary on my application form. The only reason I thought to check was due to my line manager asking me how much I am paid for the reference.

I am now slightly panicked as I dont want my prospective employer think I am a liar.

COL raises haven't been actioned yet for 2024 haven't been actioned yet

They are in nov pay back dates to September

Appraisal will be the same or even December

As long as you state the correct point I good faith then there isn't an issue.

I put the wrong rate on there which worries me! It wasn’t a major about but definitely the wrong rate! Should I contact the new employer and let them know?

What do you meant the wrong rate?

Okay so- when filling in my application for a new role in January I have stated wrong amount on my current salary(not massively inflated, but as we were told we’d be getting a new rate I stated that nothing seems to have happened about this though so actually it’s wrong) . Do I need to contact my prospective employer and let them know I was wrong? I know that referees are usually asked about pay so I’m concerned I’ve made a huge mistake here. I’ve signed my contract and done all my dbs checks etc. This mistake just worries me.

I think if you should be on say MPS3 and that's the amount you stated, it should be fine!

CJFJ1 · 03/11/2024 17:55

Surely if it's an honest mistake, and you inform your new school, explaining the background / context of the honest mistake, it won't reflect negatively on you?

helpmyback · 03/11/2024 17:55

I've never heard of-in 20 years- the teacher refer to the rate - we always say scale point or just point which is national and followed but most schools and all the one I work at.

So it depends if you have quoted the wrong point or if you have been declined a pay rise on PRP .

Or if you school has their own pay scale.

You need to clarify this.

I shall do this! Thank you!

Contract signed already? Blimey!

Yes, as pp say, just contact the school and let them know you've made an honest mistake.

Would it be best to wait? As opposed to raising it at this point?

Also yes, I have done everything in an awkwardly incorrect order and started checking payslips etc now. It’s stupid I’m well aware of this but in the business of my daily routine I just never thought to check. I applied and got this role a while ago. I dont start until January.

No you need to raise it now.

You've made an agreement based on false information. Better to correct it now than run the risk of them withdrawing the offer later. At least if they change their minds now, you'll have time to find something else.

If you don’t check your salary you should also check your pension record before you leave as it’ll be harder to correct errors once you’ve moved on
