Are you allowed time to think?

When offered a role. Is it acceptable to have time to think or are schools expecting a response on the spot? Also, if you feel you haven’t been able to see enough of the school is it acceptable to organise a shadowing day?

We did this once, we had someone who said they were a firm candidate, took the role, shadowed for a day and decided they didn’t want the role anymore.

We didn’t think too fondly of them and I know head teachers talk, is this a bad idea? I just want to know if having asked for extra time to think, since yesterday was a bad idea. I’ve been given until tomorrow morning.

Where are you that a PGCE English trainee can't get a job?

More and more waffle.

If you say so. I’ll let you think whatever you like because at this point. I think the vast majority of posters will argue with a table on this sub.

Thank you to anyone who actually gave some sound advice.

Here's some more advice: lots of people came to give you advice on all your threads in good faith.

But I've been teaching a long time (actually a long time) and quite a lot of what you say doesn't ring true. Maybe you work in the weirdest school in the weirdest MAT with the weirdest people... or maybe you're not posting in good faith.

So if you really want advice, listen to people who actually do know what they're on about.

Noted.

My advice is to get some help. It’s very odd to need to make up obviously untrue stories and seek attention from strangers on a forum. It’s super odd to do so about working in a profession that the people you’re posting to are actually experienced members of.

The nonsense is so clear. The idea, for example, that a school would not only let a teacher leave with a few days notice but they’re also going to pay to cover your lessons for one of those days so you can go and shadow at the new school.

Going by previous posting you are ect+1 at this point and you didn’t start your ect at this school. Yet you say you’ve worked there a very long time. The amount of time you’ve been qualified for changes between your posts.

This job offer, instant contract (most of us will have experienced chasing your contract still months after starting a new post), leaving a school with 3 day’s notice, being ready for a core hod role when you’ve only been fully qualified for a year in a school tiny enough to have only 3 teachers is only the latest episode you’re playing with posters about under a new moniker.

One curious question someone asked was why, if you’re going to make up an elaborate fantasy life to garner attention, would you choose being a teacher and seeking attention from teacher??

usually people go for something more glamorous.

You are clearly an outstanding flawless teacher, OP, in great demand by schools.

@CJFJ1 , you are naughty 😂!
