Job share and staff meetings

I work 0.5 in a primary school.

The weekly staff meeting is always on my working day, Monday. There is no extra time given to me to compensate for always having to attend this and my job share teacher doesn’t have to attend any.

Is this fair?

surely I should only have to attend 50% of these meetings?

Absolutely you only need to attend 50% of the meetings and also 50% of any other directed time.
Your job share cannot be asked to attend as it is a day they do not work.
If they ask you to attend all the staff meetings then they have to offset that time which I would imagine would be more inconvenient for them. This can also only be in negotiation with yourself.
If you meet any resistance to this then you will need to get your union involved.
You should have received your DT Budget at the start of the year and have had a meeting with your line manager to discuss your plan for meeting your 50% directed time. That way there is no grey area and everyone is clear what is happening.

No if it is a day that you work you are required to attend. We have had numerous meetings, as part timers, about this and this is the bottom line!

You certainly do not have to attend even if it is a day that you work.
A 0.5 part timer gets paid 0.5 and therefore does 50% of a full timer full stop. Otherwise they are working for free and who does that?

As long as the 0.5 part timer completes 50% of a full timers 1265 hrs that is what should happen.

I work 0.7 and prioritise parents evening, open evenings etc even on my day off as that is what I agreed with my line manager. I offset this by not attending some staff meetings and never go above my pro rata directed time hours for the year. Once I hit 885.5 hrs taking into account lessons, meetings and duties I do not attend another directed time meeting. This has been through the union and all above board.

Private schools may differ and some academies but part timers do not work for free.

Any head who says you have to attend every meeting needs to rethink as this is how some operate and it is not fair.

This really doesn't sound like all the advice I've ever seen. I'm part-time and attend a pro-rata number. Who has advised you on this?

Teachers employed under STPCD really need to familiarise themselves with it, because heads often play fast and loose with what it says, especially in respect of part timers:

The important bit for meetings is shown in Mrs Hamlet's photo above.
51.11 - basically you should only attend meetings/anything after your teaching hours that is directly proportional, considering your part time %, to your full time colleagues. So if they attend 100%, you should attend 50%, regardless if the meeting is on a day you work.

This only counts in LEA schools or academies that follow STPCD. Otherwise your contract can say anything about your working hours.
