Self-studying English A-level from scratch in a year - online?

Sorry to put this here but it didn't seem to fit in the other education topics.

DD unexpectedly got a C in her English Lit/Lang A-level - she was initially predicted a B but had been getting A and A* in essays for the previous term. She felt she'd done well in the exam so it was a big shock. Her tutor had a look at her paper and said there was not a problem with the marking but DD did not follow up with questions about what exactly she'd done badly to drop so many marks - she's very anxious and I think just wanted to move on after the shock.

She wants/needs to retake as she's hoping to do Eng Lit at university.
To complicate matters, no colleges offer Eng Lit/Lang retakes near us so she's having to start from scratch with Eng Lit at a local college.

She hates the tutor who she says shouts, won't answer questions, goes off on mad tangents and doesn't explain the relation between them and what they're studying. She's generally not a complainer and other students are also worried/upset. She's struggling with MH and says she just can't spend a year with this tutor.

So my questions are -
what is the best way to self-study Eng Lit in a year?
Are some online courses that are better than others?
Are there textbooks that can substitute for an online course?
Would one session with a private tutor per week be enough if she were self-motivated? We're broke.

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help.

Hi. I’m not an English specialist so can’t answer all your question. But I would say spend a lot of time reading the set texts and getting to know the content really well. Maybe, keep her head down in English lessons and just listen. If it doesn’t make sense and the tutor won’t answer, ignore it.

Youtube might have some online lessons for A level. Local library might have the equivalent of York notes for the books or some text books. I imagine some A level revision guides such as CGP might cost about the same as roughly 1-2 tutor session(s) each.

Good luck. My son went to a very unaccommodating college so I know it’s tough
