TA supply

Just starting out on supply (the extra flexibility etc). Only had one offer of work so far which was way out of my area.

Anyone else having a slow start to the term? I’m told this is normal and soon enough I’d get plenty of opportunities but I’m starting to get twitchy (and missing the income) and looking at other jobs out of education.

I am a Headteacher and to be honest in my many years of working in this sector. I cannot recall ever using a supply TA and no school in my local area does neither. We employ 15 TA’s at my school currently so there is usually one who is available to cover should it be required.

Have you considered applying for permanent/temp positions in school so you’ve got a guaranteed income?

Thank you for responding. I have met a few supply in my time (been a TA for 15 years) but as you say not all schools use them. The agency seem to think there will be work but then they would say that I know.

Last year absolutely broke me and I left my permanent role so I don’t ever want to be in that position again. I am looking for more regular jobs too .
