Pension worry

I'm part time 0.4 and doing supply. My contract is 0.4 as I took that on when my little ones were tiny and it hasn't changed. I'm worried I won't have enough pension when I retire. Is anyone else still part time after their children have grown up and gone to secondary school? I don't really want to leave my school but 0.4 isn't much of a pension

I think you need to work out how much pension that is and whether you want to take an extra job or increase your hours where you are to improve your pension and how much that will boost it by. Without figures it is hard to know.

The TPS website has some good modelling tools that allow you to predict your pension.

I'm a class teacher. When I hit 60 I'll have taught for 31 continuous years full time. My pension is predicted to be about £19000.

I feel your pain OP. I have been teaching part time 3 days a week (0.6 fte) since returning from mat leave after dd1 was born. She will be 16 soon!

Whilst I have no intention of going full time, I do worry about the pitiful state of my pension when I eventually get to pensionable age 😕
