Dreading new school year

I'm an experienced .member of staff covering classes for teachers on PPA in primary, based mainly in year 5. I've looked at the new class lists and I'm not sure I'll be able to do it - multiple SEN and SEMH, both diagnosed and on the pathway.

This year has been tough (and I've at times gone home exhausted and despondent) but for the next academic year, starting Sept, the need is so much greater. How will I meet the needs of the children? ADHD, autism, PDA, dyslexia, learning difficulties eg slow processing, anxiety incl EBSA. Approx a third of each class I'll cover have these needs. Some have been violent and aggressive in year 4 including verbally abusive.

Is it like this everywhere else?

Any advice from other staff who have covered classes is most gratefully welcome!

It’s the same where I am and despite working at a school with loads of pastoral support, I’m leaving teaching at the end of term. The amount of SEND, SEMH and, what I can only describe as entitlement from the children (and parents), has made the decision to leave very easy - I used to love my job.
So afraid not much help to you but you’re not alone.

Thanks @enidblyton33. I do keep an eye out for other jobs - teaching isn't my first career - but I mainly enjoy working with kids and teaching them when needs are met, children settled and learning. It's just the needs increasing year on year and starting the academic year feeling like a failure as I know I can't support all the children which will lead to meltdowns, shutdowns, anxiety and behavioural issues. I flag issues with SENDCO and management, but I know they too are struggling under the avalanche of it all. So knowing there isn't any hope going forward, knowing the emotional toll it will create for those kids, knowing I'll be there trying my best but my best isn't enough.
