Swearing at a teacher

In your school, if you were sworn at infront of a whole class by a UKS2 child, what would the consequences be ?

Child sent to HT and parents informed. Child would probably miss some playtime.

If it was aggressively said then I would imagine the consequences may be worse but would depend on how/what was said.

I spoke with parent and logged on cpoms. Just feels wrong SLT have had no involvement. Thanks for reply

This has happened to me. Child worked in the nurture room for the entire morning, also logged on Cpoms.

Thanks. I’ve worked in the same place now for a long time so good to hear other opinions about how things like this are dealt with or not.

In my school, they would be shouted at by my supportive Headteacher and Deputy, told off, parents informed and at the very least, internally excluded. They would be left in no doubt that it must never happen again. They would be severely told off.

I am a secondary Head - in my school, this would be dealt with in the first instance by the Head of Year - if aggressive then escalated to Assistant Head and Deputy. If the behaviour warrants an exclusion then it comes to me.

In a primary school though, structure is much different so I would say that Deputy or Head should be involved for sure.

In my school, they will probably be given a brain break and a calming chat with SLT 🙄
My friend has been called a stupid bitch and a dumb twat at least 3 times this week....

It’s just not on. It has really upset me if I’m honest. It’s not been dealt with so basically gives everyone free rein to swear at the teacher. I need out if this job !

Absolutely nothing in my school which is the reason I’m getting out of teaching!

Thanks I feel exactly the same. I’m part time cannot switch off from the place. Days off spent recovering / gearing up for my days in. If anything you have reassured me it’s not just my school x

A restorative chat. Unlikely to be any consequences and if the teacher tried to get something done about it they'd be reminded that all behaviour is communication and to remember the TPP approach. It's demoralising.

Despite an in coming Labour government, teachers will continue to leave unless we stop this ridiculous "soft" approach to dealing with disgusting behaviour. It's not about money. Teachers getting assaulted, teachers being called a bitch etc and they just get a calm chat!!! It's so obvious why they then do it again and others copy. They think "that was easy" and "entertaining and fun".

Weak and scared leaders, too scared to do the thing that we need to do, are turning our schools into places of chaos and disorder. Our children are not getting the best deal in many of our schools, teachers can't teach, many of our kids are not learning respect and it's the fault of weak, ineffective leaders in my opinion.

How do I know this? My school is one of the few remaining I know, with an experienced "old school" Head, who doesn't take any nonsense from kids or parents. No fidget toys, calming rooms, golden time, calming dogs - the children have to behave or they have a punishment. Simple as that, and it works.

Agree entirely. This is the second time in over 20 years of teaching I have been sworn at. Furst time many years ago, old school head. The child was sent home for rest of day. Last week, cold not even spoken to by SLT. My job share kept him in at play as the following day was my day off. I’m grateful to her for doing that, but like you say it gives carte blanch to the rest of them to do the same if they realise there’s zero consequence. On pick up I spoke with dad. Very much doubt there’s any back up from home, most likely a ‘well done son’ approach.
if anything I’m reassured that it’s not just my school that is absolutely going to the dogs behaviour wise.
