Coursework woes

Is it me or is anyone else having a nightmare getting coursework this year, calling home to inform parents and then being blamed by the parents for the child not having done the coursework.

I have pupil pretending to lose work, flatly refusing to do work.

It’s always a stressful time of year and I am used to chasing pupils up but feel that the lack of support from parents is off the charts this year.

I don't manage student coursework personally, but I get asked to provide direction on this as part of tuition. The one constant theme I see with students is a lack of ability to put advice into action - i.e. they don't do the work asked of them.

There's a few exceptions to this, but they are rare. My perspective could also be biased by the reason people hire me - i.e. students who don't need help are less likely to hire a tutor. I often wonder whether young people have always been this way; I don't ever remember it being like this when I was at school / university.
