I'm a KS1 TA, and it's been a very difficult term. One of the boys I do a lot of intervention work with is obsessed with Star Wars, and today, he came in for a hug and said "You're my Master Yoda, Mrs Callisto". I must confess, I got a bit teary eyed!

Sometimes, those moments just come out of nowhere, and make all the other stuff seem just a little less bad. That'll be one of the ones I try to remember on the days I feel like we're not getting anywhere.

I teach the very opposite end of the age range, ks5. Yesterday only one kid showed up to our morning tutor time (so not a lesson) out of about 25, we had a chat for a bit and I let him go a bit early. On his way out he pulled out a box of chocolates for me to say thank you for being nice to him when he was poorly last week. Made my whole week!

I'll bet it did - how lovely!

I took home a child’s PE kit that was left on the classroom floor before half term and gave it a wash so it was ready for the first day back. The family and child came in the day after returning with a box of chocolates and a hand made card and said it makes a world of difference to them to know how much I care about the little things and look after their son. I almost cried. They’ve never been a difficult family or anything but all I did was shove his Pe kit in my washing machine with my clothes…..it makes such a difference to your week doesn’t it!

Bless you being his Yoda. You’re completely right, it’s those little moments that keep me going when it gets so tough…..or you know when a child asks why I have a “moustache” (yes thank you child I’m dark haired and it has to grow to be waxed 🙄).

This post made me cry. It’s been a very difficult week and I’m all for jacking it in this year. 10 years in a tough school KS3-5 I must remember all the good interactions instead of the bad conversations I have with parents keen to shift blame into me. Why do I only remember the bad times? 😖
