Part time teacher maternity pay

I have read you must have been working for 1 year by the time you are 11 weeks pregnant to qualify for enhanced maternity pay. If you work 0.4 it still 1 year by 11 weeks?

Yes.

I believe so, but be aware that to keep this additional pay you will have to return to work for 13 weeks FTE.

I don't think that's right. She'll get enhanced pay at a rate of 0.4FTE. She will need to return for 13 weeks at 0.4FTE. Btw OP, there is no option to pro rata that - if you go back for 12 weeks then leave they could make you pay back it all (although to be honest at 0.4 unless you're on a high salary it won't be a huge amount).

I must not have been clear because that is what I intended to say - she needs to return and complete 13 weeks FTE, and if she returns on the same terms that will be 0.4. I left for my most recent mat leave on 0.6 but returned on 0.8 so I completed the 13 weeks FTE more quickly than I would have previously.

Apologies. When I worked in the private sector FTE was always used to mean 1FTE and I didn't want the OP to think she had to make up the equivalent of 13 weeks x 5 days. I'm glad we're on the same page 🙂

Surely if she only gets 0.4 enhanced pay she only needs to work 0.4 to pay it off.

Ok thanks everyone, I’m not planning on leaving afterwards (although you ever know, this would be baby 3 if it happens!). I just wanted to check that the 1 year by 11 weeks wasn’t FTE.

I thought not but on further reading I think I may be wrong. I’ll ask MNHQ to delete my previous post to avoid confusion. Sorry!
