Maternity Pay Help

Hello,

I am currently working part time (0.8) and I want to plan to have a family in the future. I was wondering how long I have to be working full time to get full time maternity pay?

If I was to get pregnant around December and apply for back full time in the September , I would only be back in work full time a few weeks in the September before I went on maternity leave. Would I get full maternity pay?

thanks

Can you check with your union?

My understanding is that the pay is calculated on your average pay for the eight weeks before your ‘qualifying week’, which is fifteen weeks before your due date. Essentially you would need to be full time from approximately week seven of your pregnancy. Assuming you mean conceiving in December ‘24 and going full time from September ‘25 then no, you would not receive full pay in the situation you describe.

Thank you, this has made it much clearer!

Would you be working for the same employer or are you talking about changing employer as part of your 'applying back for full time?

You need to work for your employer for a period of time, usually around 1 yr, to be eligible for occupational mat pay.

Have a read of statutory mat pay to give you an idea of that, too. https://www.gov.uk/maternity-pay-leave/eligibility
