Lesson observation?

I'm just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. As we have a big problem with behaviour in school I was told that a colleague would be sitting in on some lessons on a certain day to give advice about supporting with behaviour. I was expecting to be told some strategies to help deal with some difficult children where nothing seems to work - i.e. they won't engage at all and are very disruptive.

But no, it turned out to be some full lesson observations of me. It was an awful day, behaviour was off the chart awful and they were unimpressed with my behaviour management and the actual lesson. I would never have done that lesson if I had realised I was being observed.

Has anyone else had a formal observation which they had no idea was happening? Is this even 'allowed'?

I'm not sure on the legalities of what they might call a learning walk, a formal observation or an informal observation. I thought they had to give notice for formal observations.

Nonetheless, I've got one thing to say and that's get out of the school as soon as you can. The management are looking to blame the staff for their own failures. When behaviour is consistently bad across the school, it's the fault of the Headteacher and their SLT. Resign as soon as you can.

Thanks for your reply @PrimaryTeacherabc

I think there has been absolutely no recognition in a practical sense from SLT about how behaviour has been impacted by the enormous numbers of undiagnosed and unsupported SEN children we now seem to have.

I think I am going to leave, just unsure whether it will be Easter or summer.
