0.8 to full time

I'm currently 0.8 secondary and no longer need to be for practical reasons, but the day off is great for my mental health and wellbeing. My day off is busy doing life admin so we have a nice weekend m.

However, I really would like more money.

Also only get 2 PPA a week, If I went full time it would be another PPA. We have 5 x hour lessons per day so I'd be doing another 4 hour lessons plus 30 mins registeation. I'd also benefit from time after school to plan and prep.

I'm ups 3 so it is an extra £9k gross but after tax and pension I'd get £2730 compared to currently £2272 so £460 more per month? £5520 per year

I also am a senior examiner (T/L) for AQA and earn about £2.5k but this would be compromised as I don't think I'd have the capacity to do this? I mark two papers - TL on one.

460£ per month is a lot and I do think being part-time means you’re probably planning the lessons anyway, it would just be a case of teaching them. There is also the marking load that comes with it.

but equally I’m 4 days a week and not looking forward to the prospect of being full time. Not sure I’ll cope. My youngest starts school next year but can foresee problems - and I still want to be able to pick them up, but there seems to be quite a lot of inflexibility with that.

I loved being 0.8 and life felt so much more manageable. It was worth the drop in pay but obviously that depends on your lifestyle and costs.
I would stick with the exam board work because that diversifies your CV and maybe think longer term and do some volunteering on that fifth day, so that if you do need to swap jobs in your sixties or whenever, you have the flexibility to do so? I suggest this as my friend has been working part time as a charity volunteer and they have a just offered her a paid role, she's over the moon!

Just to be sure have you checked any pension %change as well ?

It also depends a little on timetabling assuming this is secondary: would you have a lot of extra classes, or extra lessons with the same class?

Following. However I'm key stage 1 in an independent school but your figures are similar op. I'm considering going back full time for the extra 9/10k. My kids are all at my school so I'm fortunate in that I don't miss their own school events but I love having that day to get my hair done, go to the GP etc. I've got until Easter to get my formal request in.

I'm full time since September having done 0.6 for 7 years and 0.7 the previous year. I am primary. My DC are now in Yr 1 and yr 4.

There are definite pros and cons.

I do miss having that day for life admin. It's definitely more full on and has taken a bit of adjustment. It creeps into the weekends more with planning. There are many weeks where I feel like I'm paddling hard just to keep my head above water.

The extra pay does make a difference. We are looking to move house this year and I'm able to put away a bit.more in savings and it gives us more ability to pay the inevitable higher mortgage.

I also love that I have complete knowledge of everything that happens in the week. I'm not waiting to hear what happened in school on Friday and I don't miss any safeguarding issues. I also don't have to think about any communication etc that I've missed. I also feel so much more like part of the team.

I am lucky enough that on my PPA day, I'm allowed to leave early and pick up my DC from school.

This half term has been stressful. Trying to balance out the planning I need to do, the reports I'm meant to be writing and entertain the DC has been tricky. Whereas having that day before half term was really helpful to get a huge chunk done.
