That's it, in a nutshell.

I do supply work and I have been doing so for the past two years. I do a lot of day to day stuff but I had one long term placement that I had to end as it got too stressy.

In Jan, I was put in a charming class, lovely school, I've got to know the kids so well.

And now they don't need me anymore - I've had so much positive feedback! They keep telling me to look out for any vacancies. And if they need a supply TA, they will ask for me...!

Gah! It's a tough one. Perhaps I should find a permanent job.

Any suggestions to help me get over this phase are most welcome.

That is the downside to supply - it’s not permanent and work is never guaranteed. I wouldn’t hold onto waiting for one school to get back to you.

Set up job alerts and apply for the roles that are suitable for you. Would you consider other support roles in a school? Admin/ Headteachers PA/ Cover Supervisor etc.
I find Supply TA’s to be very little in demand to be honest. We certainly don’t have them in our school- it is too costly - in fact, I’d go as far to say we don’t really outsource for supply when it comes to teachers too - we employ cover supervisors who cover lessons across the school and then support with any other Ad-hoc duties….
You don’t need to have QTS to be a Cover Supervisor.

Look for a role you like in school like the previous poster suggested! Supply TA is such a rarity!

Yes I do agree. Work is a bit sporadic but it works OK for me and my busy home life. I don't desperately rely on my income, but it is making life that extra bit easier!

What is the role and responsibilities of a cover supervisor?

If the school employs me as a cover then that would be hitting the jackpot.

Cover supervisors are suitably-trained school staff who supervise pupils carrying out pre-prepared exercises when teaching staff are on short-term absence. The cover supervisor’s main job is to manage a classroom, ensuring that students remain on task with the work they have been set.

Have a look on eteach or TES - there are a few jobs on there.
