Disaggregated INSET days off are my day off. Part timer.

I have always struggled to get my head around part time teaching hours, pay and holidays.
I work 0.8. In any other job, wouldn't I have less holiday allocation? Why do I get all the holidays?
Anyway, my school does disaggregated INSET. It doesn't really seem fair on students/parents, as they have less teaching time. How does that work?
So we have extra days off and loads of twilight INSET. I have two issues with this. Firstly, I have to pay for more childcare to attend the evening sessions, and secondly, the days off fall on my non working day.
I don't benefit from the disaggregation, is this just bad luck?
And should I just go to 80% of the twilight sessions?
So many questions!

I can't answer all your questions, but you don't get all the holidays..., if you're 0.8, you'll get paid for 0.8 of the holidays!
I can see why twilight INSETs are annoying, as like you said, you have to find evening childcare. This must be really hard for single parents or those whose partner works in the evenings.

Students don't have less teaching time. 190 teaching days, plus 5 days inset (or equivalent using twilights).

At my school students have 8 INSET days this year. Last year they had 9.
I still don't understand the holidays. I know I get paid throughout the summer at 0.8, but in any other job I would only get 0.8 of the holidays too, not all of them, wouldn't I?

But you do only get 0.8 of the days off.

In the 2 week Christmas holiday, a full time teacher got 10 days off. You got 8.

LolaSmiles · 13/01/2024 16:16

There's no less teaching being delivered because inset is on top of the school term time.
If you're 0.8 you're only getting 0.8 in the holidays too. You're not paid 1.0 in the holidays. You're being paid 0.8 of the teacher package

If you're part time you only need to do 0.8 of directed time and should discuss the directed time calendar with the relevant member of SLT to establish which meetings and training you need to do.

If the twilights are in place of inset days in your days off then you categorically do not need to do them.
You should also only be doing 0.8 of the staff meetings.
Finally, you are only getting 0.8 of the holidays as the 5th day of every week in holiday is not a holiday for you as you would be off anyway and are not being paid for it.

Yes you should only be doing 0.8 of twilights/ meetings.
you should negotiate your 0.8 days off with slt

You should be doing directed time pro rata so should agree with your line manager which meetings and INSETs you won’t be doing. You should be skipping one INSET on 0.8, but you could increase this by doing more than 0.8 staff meetings.

You don’t do the twilights if the disaggregated INSET is one you have off. Trickier if more than one INSET happens on your day off though - they could ask you to do more hours elsewhere to make up the 0.8.
