I'm just curious how paying for tea and coffee is done in your school?

We have free tea and coffee...just basic stuff, some staff being in their own. Secondary school.

doglover90 · 12/01/2024 23:30

Free tea and coffee at every school I've worked at.

At my current school there's free tea and coffee . At a previous school we didn't have a staff room but a fridge, kettle and microwave in each departmental office and we took it in turns bringing milk in

Whaaaaat?! I've never ever known this (primary). I used to buy all the tea, coffee and milk for school, a thankless task, and it was a fiver a term or pro-rata for part timers. At my current school we just bring in our own.

MrsHamlet · 13/01/2024 10:16

You bring your own.

LondonQueen · 13/01/2024 14:04

The schools I've worked in it is usually provided unless you want something fancier.

Thanks everyone

We pay (Primary) set amount for tea/coffee/sugar/milk. Part time pay part. You can obviously bring your own but one tiny fridge in tiny staffroom so not much room for storage.

Familiaritybreedscontemptso · 13/01/2024 23:26

I’ve never had it provided (but would if I ran my own school). We bring our own at my current place; others have had a kitty.

good96 · 14/01/2024 09:52

Free tea, coffee and hot choc in the staff room for colleagues - it’s cheaper to order direct from our stationery supplier than to buy from supermarket.
We also offer soft drinks too.
Some departments do have drink making facilities in their offices - usually funded by a kitty or self supplied.

Avidreader12 · 14/01/2024 18:56

Always had to take our own also teaspoons from communal areas went missing milk was supposed to be communal but loads of conversations about people taking milk from different departments that wasn’t theirs. I found working at a school very petty and hard work to be honest.

HideTheCroissants · 28/01/2024 13:24

We pay monthly by direct debit to the staff fund - it’s around £5 per month for full time staff (paid for all 12 months). This pays for tea, coffee, (decent named brands), sugar, milk, squash, dishwasher tablets etc. plus a bit towards any flowers etc. bought for leavers, bereavements and suchlike.
The only workplace I got free refreshments was private sector.

Popfan · 31/01/2024 22:31

At my school (2 form entry primary) tea, coffee and milk is provided.

Pigriver · 04/02/2024 21:31

We used to pay £5 per half term for tea, coffee, milk and the occasional packet of biscuits. Then the biscuits stopped.

Due to covid lots started to bring in flasks from home as we couldn't all use the same staff room. That continues and now everyone just sorts themselves out.
I'm lucky as foundation have their own kitchen so we do our own. Just take turns. Our kids never drink all of the milk cartons so we always have milk!
