a colleague I co teach my lessons with has been off since last week. A student had said that “I love confiding in miss smith she doesn’t ever tell anyone else the things I mention” it’s now been made clear that the student cannot communicate with that staff member and he has said to me today “have you heard. I can’t speak to Miss Smith now, what’s this all about” (anonymised name obvs)

Miss Smith has been away for longer than normal now. She wasn’t escorted off site or anything but her room has now been re arranged and her bean bag chairs for students (who would pop in to her at lunch) have been taken out, which yes is only small. But somehwhat strange?

Students have kept asking me today where she is, I did ask other staff if she’s okay and a couple of rumours flew around. One was “she’s annoyed she’s being persecuted so isn’t coming in” the other is”. On my drive home, I thought to myself “maybe she’s being investigated” ? But I wasn’t sure because she was still around after she had a paddy about the meeting that took place about it.

I know it’s silly to ask but could it be an investigation. How long does this stuff take?

i know it’s not something I should be too bothered about but as I’m not seeing any cover from them, I’m just curious…

This is a most unprofessional post. If someone at school felt you should know why she's off they would tell you. Whatever the reason, it's clearly a private matter and not for you to be speculating about online. It's certainly not for anyone else on here to speculate either, based on the information you have given.

If you're concerned about lack of cover (understandably) you need to address this with SLT but you most definitely can't enquire about why your college is off as, at this stage, that is quite frankly none of your business and you would look most unprofessional if you asked.

Sorry to be blunt but I'm quite shocked that you think it's appropriate to post such a thing on here.

It's none of your business.

I've reported this inappropriate and unprofessional thread and I hope @MNHQ will take it down. I'm really disappointed that a teacher would run to the internet to gossip about a colleague and a potential live safeguarding situation.

FWIW, the phrase 'having a paddy' is widely considered pretty xenophobic these days.
