Rubbish start to holiday - typical timing

So, after a very long half term we finished last Friday (I don’t know how some teachers managed to keep going an extra week). I was on my knees and had to go home at lunch on Tuesday and Wednesday as I just couldn’t keep going.

Felt better but then felt a lot worse on Friday. Saturday came and ranging temperature, cough and yup tested positive for Covid.

Spent the best part of a first week of the holiday in bed feeling absolutely bloody dreadful! Christmas is not prepared for - lots of teenagers presents ordered too late as I had intended to use the weekend. They understand but it doesn’t stop me being annoyed. I work in a boarding school so term time is extra hectic and everything is left to the holidays.

Still feel crap, not been able to see family or do anything we had planned and just so fucking pissed off.

Just about feeling recovered in time for term to start again. We have a later start with inset on Friday but I have so much to catch up from being ill at the end of term that I need to do work before then.

On top of that I keep losing me voice, so a tad worried that I won’t be up for a full day teaching! Might consider a portable microphone-speaker set!

Anyone else miss most of the holiday due to being poorly? And not going to be fully well when going back?

So sorry you have been so unwell over the holidays - its totally rubbish when it's like that!

I have been lucky this year - had a cold before the Christmas holidays. Didn't finish until the 22nd so it had gone by then.

I remember one year though, getting the most horrendous chest infection over Christmas- I was so bloody ill. Went back to work on the 4th Jan that year and was still recovering.

If you're still unwell, stay home from the INSET day so you can hopefully recover more.

Know the feeling about the work - I have a lot that needs doing but no motivation to do it, which is obviously a different problem to yours, but still.
In your position, just do what is absolutely essential for the first couple of days and leave the rest for when you are better.

I had Covid just before the hols started and had to have the last three days of term off I'll. slept most of the time and wasn't able to get anything done I had planned as was still tired by the Christmas weekend! Also managed to pass it on to my partner who is a nurse and therefore wasn't able to work her shifts over Christmas. So tiring. Still feel a bit ache today. Hopefully a chill out day tomorrow will help . At least weds is only inset. Hasn't helped that this has been the shortage xmas hol in a long time!

It is so tough when school is full on and you are ill in the holidays.

It's not like you can take it easy and work at 50% when you have classes in front of you.
