Hi. i am an experienced primary school teacher and am Reading Recovery trained. I'm now considering training to be able to teach adult literacy.

Has anybody else taken this route? How did you do it? What couse/qualification did you do?

Thank you.

Hi there, if you are still around! I'm an adult education lecturer now, teaching arts and culture subjects, but many moons ago (think over 23 years ago!), I had decided to do a certificate in teaching adult literacy. Back then, I was teaching in Higher Education, the internet wasn't used much and there was not much information out there, but a colleague suggested I get in touch with my local Adult Education College, as she knew they were running lots of literacy classes. I found them really helpful and in fact ended up doing an adult literary teaching qualification there - and gaining experience by sitting in with their literacy tutor's classes.

Things are probably very different now to when I trained, but it might be worthwhile getting in touch with your local adult college and asking if they'll pass on an enquiry to their learning support tutor. They may be able to give you lots more information and define some pathways to achieving the qualification. Good luck.
