Changed username as outing.
I work in an independent and teach across all key stages in one subject and KS3 in another. School is thriving but struggling with increasing costs and obvious concerns about a Labour government. Someone mentioned in passing that our primary school is currently overstaffed. The day after, a member of SLT flippantly told another colleague that she would be teaching my subject next year. That could mean a third of my timetable disappearing.
My hod in the other subject is leaving at the end of the year. I am not interested in leading the subject but am happy to continue as teacher and potentially pick up more timetable time which would be ideal but there is obviously going to be a need for a hod.
What do I need to do at this point? I will obviously speak to my union at the earliest. But any advice? I am concerned also about the potential appointment of a new HOD - if I don't go for the HOD post, what happens? Can I be partially redundant in that subject if they want to appoint someone full time? What if I go for HOD but don't get it, am I making myself redundant there?
I have been at the school 7 years, never had an issue with observations etc and have been flexible and accommodating in teaching outside my specialist area. There is an in-crowd and I am not part of it. I am not unhappy about the prospect of moving on if necessary but I am a sole earner in my household and obviously need time to be able to get myself sorted with something decent. Ideally, I want to stay, however, and full time. What do I need to do to make that happen?
