DBS Advice

Hi, I'm filling in a DBS form for a new job and am struggling with the following question
Are you known to the police and children’s social care?Does it mean currently involved with, or ever had any involvement with? Known in what context?Basically, a few years ago, the police and social services were involved due to my ex's behaviour towards me. I did everything 'right' and there wasn't any criticism of my parenting and the case was closed. But, I feel embarrassed enough writing this anonymously on the internet, let alone writing it on a form and handing it in for my new job.

You're better off being honest on the form

Not sure where I said I was intending to lie?

I'm genuinely confused by the question. To me 'known to the police' means 'they know you're a criminal but they have no proof' as oppose to 'met some lovely officers when a victim of crime'.

I had to send the form off so I said yes and gave a brief factual account because at the end of the day I was more worried about accidentally filling the form in wrong than people knowing about my poor taste in men.

You did the right thing. Better to write it and be told that it’s all fine, than to miss it off and to be told at a later date that you should’ve included it as that could get you into trouble for not declaring something.
