I've just started a new role as a SEN tutor with kids who are out of a school setting. I'll be doing maths and English with them, but I have a 15 year old pupil who wants to do something enjoyable for his first week with me and he loves history, particularly wars.
I only have him for an hour per day. Day 1, we completed crosswords on world wars which he quite enjoyed. Day 2, I brought some comprehension tasks on the Battle of Britain and Alan Turing. They were supposed to be for his age group, but he's very bright and knowledgeable about these topics so found it too easy (I thought this would be the case, but thought it would be good for confidence to show his ability). He also said he finds it boring to read texts and answer questions, but when I suggested setting him a writing task, he said no.
I have 2 more sessions with him that are to involve history - any ideas what on earth I can do to engage him? I thought about taking my ancestry account in and letting him have a go at building a family tree but not sure if I'd be crossing some boundaries here. Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.
