Hi all,

need some advice. Moved to a new school. Got my contracf but has old pay scale on it. I checked neu website and it says new salary of 6.5% increase comes into effect from September? Have I understood correctly.

I asked head about it and he said he will check and get back to me.

is anyone else in a similiar position. I haven’t signed it yet.

Union near me are regularly checking to ensure that schools implement the pay increase, which suggests that many haven't/ won't without nagging.

Our trust is implementing the 6.5% but it is usually paid from November and backdated to September along with any pay progression from the completed performance review.

@ThanksItHasPockets thank you for that. I’m not sure whether to sign the contract? Which states the old pay?

The contract is binding whether signed or not. School probably are waiting for STPCD to be updated and will implement the pay increase as normal, usually end of November backdated to 1st sept

Really ! Oh wow! Did not realise implementation was optional.

ASCL’s guidance to headteachers says that it should be paid in November or December and backdated as technically there has to be formal approval of the increase in parliament. There is a thread on Twitter about the issue at the moment. A couple of schools are claiming that they are paying the increase from 1 September but they will be unusual.

In your position I would give the HT the chance to come back to you first. If you are really concerned then you can request an amendment to the contract to include the 23-24 pay point.

Maintained schools can’t implement it until it is ratified by Parliament in November.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Do your school follow the STPCD? If they do, they should implement the pay rise later this year when the STPCD for this year has been ratified, and you should get a chunk of money as backdated pay from September. If tell you they don't follow the STPCD - run!

Our school pay review has to go via governors first so usually it's back paid in November's pay.

The pay increase is still in parliament and will be for another few weeks. The pay increase will most likely be paid in November in maintained schools and backdated to September.

That will be for the pay awards following the performance management cycle, which is a different matter to the universal 6.5% which as pp have said will have to be ratified in Parliament.
