Teaching in Australia

I’m a history teacher of 5 years in the uk. Anyone went to teach in Australia here? What’s the process? Ideally I’d like to get visa sorted, registered as a teacher and job secured before going out there. Any advice? thanks

Which part of Aus do you want to go to? The process differs in each state. You would be wise to contact the Ed Deptfor each state to see what the process is. WA hasa huge teacher shortage at the moment.

Pick your state/territory to get the registration process rolling. They all have small differences. If I've read the news vibe correctly there are teacher shortages all over. I don't know if you can be registered in one state and carry it over to another.

You'll get significantly more money in the private sector, but still have to register.

An update on teacher shortages. In Victoria at least. I put in to renew my registration, having not completed the 20 hours of teaching in 2022-3. The site said a six-week wait might be on the cards before being OK'd.

Thirty minutes later I was approved. I'll soon be 69.

I am a very experienced English teacher and in no way behind the times/physically compromised/IT illiterate - but was still surprised at the speed with which my hand was bitten off. Grin
