Do you go in to school on results day?

If you are a class teacher rather that SLT/exams officers? And if so what do you do? Is it a good experience, or do you feel like a spare part?

I want to go to congratulate (fingers crossed…) my students if they come in, but would it be weird without an actual job to do there? The school have just said all staff are ‘welcome’ but not specified what for…

Yes, unless you are away on holiday it is typical for teaching staff to go in and actually expected

MsMarple · 23/08/2023 22:53

Thanks Moglet4 do you have anything to do? Or just be there smiling at people?

Just smile, congratulate and maybe reassure that remarks might be possible!

I am SLT now but have been to every results day bar one since I I started teaching. I love it and it’s even better if you don’t have a job to do.

I wouldn’t say it’s expected in my school but there’s always a good number of staff around and a nice atmosphere. People often go off for lunch together after. Nobody will think it’s weird for you to go in.

DS is a HoD, he always goes in unless he's away.

It's not expected unless you're a HOD or SLT. I go in if I'm available.

I've only ever been once. I found it really awkward. Like going to prom, the kids just want to be with their friends not teachers. There's no obligation unless you're slt.
