A letter to the head?

Ds3 has just aced his Highers. He’s now a prefect and happy at school but it wasn’t always like this. He was so unhappy in first and second year to the point of school refusal, then came lockdown which he loved and I almost didn’t send him back afterwards but his guidance teacher has continually put things in place to make it easier for him. He is now diagnosed with ASD, which helped with alternative arrangements for exams and it’s been his guidance teacher that has organised this for him. Another teacher has supported him through a higher he was desperate to do despite the school not offering it. Some of this being done in the teachers own time.

So, I suppose what I’m asking is, as teachers, would you like a card to thank you personally (I have spoken to the guidance teacher several times, personally and by email during Covid but I don’t know the other teacher at all) or email the head. I’m not sure if that’s a bit over the top but I really appreciate what these teachers have done for ds and I know his success is down to the support he has had. Any advice welcome.

I would just email the Head and express your thanks to particular teachers who have helped your DS. Keeps it simple and teachers really do appreciate this feedback. It sometimes helps some of those through tough days just to reflect that they’re doing a good job because they’ve made an impact on a child.

Thanks, I will do that.

Email the head and CC the relevant teachers?

I think it’s lovely you want to recognise their efforts.

Personally, I would prefer an actual card. However, some teachers pin these to the notice boards behind their desks and there’s a chance another pupil might read it. Your son may not appreciate this.

@Onehappymam a year ago I would have said that ds wouldn’t have been bothered by that. This year I think he might. He will have both these teachers again this year as same teacher is supporting him to do the AH. I’m thinking a personal card and gift when he leaves and email the head and CC for now.

Whatever you do, it'll mean a lot to his teachers! It's always nice to be acknowledged!
