How much will the 6.5% add to my take home?

Trying to work out how much difference this will make per month, after deductions.

I know we didn’t do it for the money but I’m on the bones if my arse.

I know it’s unlikely to cover the lost wages from strike days this year!

Let’s say for a full time M6 teacher.

Multiply what you get by 1.065

It’s the deductions I can’t work out!

It depends on if you’re paying student loan or not. Try listentotaxman.co.uk and put in the new M6 pay, your pension (I think it’s 7%?) and whichever student loan you’re repaying (if you are). If you’re main pay scale are you going up a point too? Or able to apply for upper pay scale?

Does anyone know if the pay rise will apply to TLR?

HedyPrism · 01/08/2023 08:58

There's a teacher pay calculator on TES, free to download. If you're OK with excel, it's quite straightforward to amend with the 6.5%. Or it might have been updated already.

Or Take Home salary calculator when you Google.

fussychica · 01/08/2023 17:50

Yes it applies to TLRs according to published pay scales from the union.

My understanding is that the additional 2% compared to the 6.5% of the pay offer will cover most people's lost strike pay. So after a year you should just about break even.

You need to tell us which (if any) student loan plan you're on then, because the deductions differ quite a bit...

I’m not paying any student loan.
