Giving longer notice period than required?

I've posted this under the work topic too but thought I might get someone with experience in this topic.
Not for me but a colleague of mine who is employed as support staff in a primary school, she has been offered a better position in another school so is sadly leaving us. She only needs to give 1 month notice as per her contract but would like to be paid for the full duration of the holidays, making her last working day 31st August.
Our principal is pressing her to resign early, giving her one months notice by the end of the week, this will give her roughly a weeks less pay. Can she give longer than the months notice, and if so do they have to pay her for the full notice period?
TIA!

She doesn’t need to resign early. She can give her resignation today to leave as of the 31st August. If she has worked the full previous year she is entitled to the pay over the summer anyway as she will have been paid pro rota with an even split over 12 months so the HT wont gain anything by her going off the books early.

Also to answer your question yes she can give as long a notice period as she wants. Contractual notice is the minimum she has to give not the maximum she can.
