Got a small holiday planned but looking for some inspiration!
What's everyone up to?

Visiting my parents in Manchester for a few days with a Anglesey trip thrown in. Devon for a week and Tenby for a week!

Treebo · 11/07/2023 18:28

Eastbourne 'Summer fireworks' (warmer than November 5th) bit of sketching, work and CPD.

namechangedyetagain · 12/07/2023 17:31

I suspect for the first few weeks I'll be rocking in a corner trying to process what's gone on this year. Then I might have a week away and then I will be stressing about joining a new school.

good96 · 12/07/2023 21:16

Going abroad on the 31st July for two weeks to Spain and when I’m back I’ll prob spend a couple days a week at work preparing for September and then doing some DIY and few day trips…

Philandbill · 12/07/2023 22:08

@Jobhunterteacher feeling envious of your Tenby trip, best seaside town anywhere. I am going to paint the bannisters etc whilst listening to trashy audiobooks. And DD and I are big fans of the BBC comedy "Ghosts" so we are going to do a tour of the house they film it in. No overseas holiday for us this year as we had a big holiday last year.

Mumof118 · 12/07/2023 23:10

I’m disappearing to Florida for a month, with a Bahamas cruise thrown in. Will be canoeing Wekiwa River in no time.

PumpkinPie2016 · 15/07/2023 08:55

Our household is me, DH and DS (age 9 yrs) for context. DH works for himself - gardens/tree work so pretty flexible and I will obviously be home.

We are away in Austria the middle two weeks so that will be lovely. A complete break for us all as we are going to hotel.

Otherwise, nothing major planned but I will enjoy the time at home and with DS.
I am extremely fortunate that DS is a really easy going kid.
I have my dissertation to finish over summer -eek!

So, we will do things like local walks, see my auntie, swimming at the local pool, museum, library as he does the reading challenge, have a friend round for ds, he also has a friends birthday party as well. We got a leaflet about a football summer club which he has asked to go to so may book him in there for a day, although I feel a bit guilty booking him in when I am home. We'll also do things at home like play games, build lego, bake etc.

I used to feel the need to fill every single day for DS but he is quite a home body and after a busy school year, he sometimes just enjoys the slower pace of summer. Term time is obviously school but then cubs and swimming on top so not having to be anywhere is quite nice!

Jobhunterteacher · 19/07/2023 18:48

Do love a Tenby trip and hopefully lots of swimming and cave exploring!

Jobhunterteacher · 19/07/2023 19:41

That sounds useful and enjoyable too! Tenby is mostly so George can see his grandparents and uncle and cousins! Will still be cool though

Philandbill · 19/07/2023 22:15

@Jobhunterteacher now thinking about Tenby again... Favourite bits- walking from Castle beach to South beach when the tide is out, walking up to the monument of Albert and looking at the view, looking in the rock pools on North beach, having a pie for dinner from the fabulous pie shop, choosing a book from the random selection at WH Smiths and walking around the harbour. 😀

Jobhunterteacher · 19/07/2023 22:45

My son and I and indeed my brothers love going in the cave/ arch under St Catherine's island and wait for the ride to come in and avoid getting wet feet. When the tide is far enough out going around the headland from north to south sea under the old lifeboat station! Trips out to Caldey island and Pembroke castle etc

Jobhunterteacher · 20/07/2023 07:33

Don't feel guilty as he wants to go football camp use the time to work on your dissertation while he enjoys himself! Added bonus you won't have to feel guilty about working in the hols and missing time with your son! Win win

Applying for non-education jobs!!!

(Hopefully, lots of other stuff to do. And, preparing for lessons in case)

PumpkinPie2016 · 23/07/2023 15:59

Hope everyone's weekend is going well- it's so nice to have a Sunday where I don't have to get things ready for school the next day 🙂

We've had quite a relaxing weekend as ds has a cold bless him. Not poorly with it but felt it was best to make sure he could rest.

Yesterday, we went to the village library and signed up for the reading challenge so DS started his book. Also had to go to the supermarket but other than that chilled at home.

Today, the weather here is awful - it has literally not stopped raining all day so haven't ventured out. Helped DS finish one of his lego models, did a bit of tidying and done some work on my MA dissertation. Will watch an episode of a series with DH later and enjoy being able to read later than normal tonight 😂

Have to venture into a different town tomorrow morning but have decided to take the train rather than drive so it's a bit more of an adventure for DS.

Philandbill · 23/07/2023 22:25

I went into work yesterday and will again tomorrow, Tuesday and Wednesday but today enjoyed seeing friends this morning and this afternoon went for an early dinner with in laws. And have just watched World on Fire which is my Sunday evening treat made better because it's the holidays 😄
What's your dissertation on @PumpkinPie2016 ?

helloisitmeyourelookingfor · 23/07/2023 22:38

This holiday I intend to be ploughing through a couple of assignments for my masters so I can get ahead

No holiday as there is only me and I'm not a great solo traveller

My DD's both have trips planned with various friends/boyfriends so I shall live vicariously through them

PumpkinPie2016 · 24/07/2023 12:12

@Philandbill it's on teachers' views on the current Ofsted framework 🙂

@helloisitmeyourelookingfor good luck with your assignments!

I am currently on my way back from a morning out with DS - we took the train rather than drive so it's been nice.

Will do some dissertation stuff later and potter at home. Nice to have time to breathe instead of going at 100mph all the time!

Philandbill · 25/07/2023 05:55

@PumpkinPie2016 that genuinely sounds interesting. We had Ofsted visit this term. It went well but my views of them are not positive, and that's an understatement. Keep thinking of Ruth Parry and the tragedy of the many other lives they have wrecked that haven't hit the media. I'm old enough to remember the days of LEA advisory teachers who actually supported schools towards improvement. Honestly think that the current retention and recruitment crisis would not be nearly as bad if Ofsted were radically reformed. Having seen the appointment of the new chief I'm not hopeful though. 😞 Going to drop my car off for it's own Ofsted later (MOT) and really hoping that it doesn't go into special measures as it's sixteen years old. (Decent pay rise anyone???)

Mumwithbaggage · 25/07/2023 17:11

I'm going to look after myself - low carb and intermittent fasting, get highlights... I'm 60 in February - far too old to still be teaching (well, had a lot of career breaks) but dc4 has only finished Y1 of university so needs must.

I eat utter rubbish at school - don't even really like biscuits - and like everyone else it's been a tough term. I have sciatica and wheat doesn't suit me. Instead of buying new clothes I'm doing a slf care thing all holiday so the stuff in the wardrobe that's too tight fits and I don't feel like a plop. No-one will recognise me on our first Inset day. Well, that's my plan... 😂
