Hi,

I am going to start a new school in September and they are using the power of reading scheme for English. Does anyone use this in their school? How is it? How does it work? Tried researching but still confused.

Yep, pros and cons to it like anything. My previous 2 schools used it as a starting point for Literacy planning. Select a book for a half term (or however long), follow the plans for that book. My last 2 schools both took a soft touch 'pick n mix' approach using some of the sessions in the plans but not all of them, and added in GPS and additional writing elements.

@Toddler101 omg thank you soo much. so it comes with plans and I won’t need to plan from scratch? How did you find it? Is it easy to use/ follow?

It does come with plans but they are not sufficient to cover the whole of the English curriculum. An awful lot of diary entries and setting descriptions. They’re a nice starting point but will need adapting fairly heavily.

I like the significant focus on a full text. The kids like that too. Ask the school to give you their log in details and start having a look, that’s the easiest way to get to know it.

And they involve lots of 'conscious alley' type sessions and drama bits too, in addition to what 5childrenand said. Lots of ideas but no, you shouldn't have to plan from scratch. You will have to plan how to cover the curriculum content!

I grew to like it. Easy to use. I particularly liked the suggestions of linked texts to read alongside (like end of the day stories rather than focus texts).

@5childrenand @Toddler101 thank you so much for the replies. Reallly helpful. I will ask for log in details when I next go to see them.
