Student pushed me

Quick question, a student (yr 9) came to our office (I’m pastoral staff) today asking for a football. I opened the door and stood in the doorway and told him he wasn’t allowed to get one. He was in isolation and shouldn’t have even been there. As I was holding the door and blocking the gap with my body while calmly telling him this, he pushed himself against me in an attempt to barge through. I resisted and he backed off.
I put it on the system as a serious incident and later he was told to come apologise to me which he did and I thanked him. I’ve now been told by another colleague that he won’t get a sanction because he apologised.
I’m interested to know what if any sanction he would get in another school?

I'm not in secondary but in our school any staff member being hurt would be internal exclusion.

MrsHamlet · 24/05/2023 20:25

External exclusion for at least a day

Thanks for the replies. Apology was nice to have but I felt, not enough.

In our school, the child would probably get star of the week for apologising!

WillowtreeHouse · 25/05/2023 20:16

Something very similar happened to me last week (Y8). Child was in internal exclusion for the rest of the day. He did come and apologise to me but it's not a nice experience.

JaffavsCookie · 25/05/2023 22:09

In our school absolutely nothing as he apologised 😳

welshmercury · 25/05/2023 22:28

What about of next time he stabs you but says sorry. Only in schools is this thought to be ok!

bellylaughs · 26/05/2023 07:56

Update; it was initially decided he would have an after school detention. Then myself and anothe member of staff who was also badly affected by his behaviour that day but spoke to the assistant head in charge and he changed it to a days exclusion. (Still made me stand in front of the student to hear his version and give my version which I think was not a good idea) anyway I feel a bit better about it all now.

if you’re SLT - exclusion for a week or so. If you’re a TA - f all.

Tell me this isn’t the majority! I cannot imagine pushing a teacher when I was at school…..are our children just really that badly avoidant of the word no??

SEN aside…..I’m currently dealing with a couple of reception age children who routinely hit and push teachers and children - in this instance, it’s behavioural. Not SEN. Parents insistent that a gentle positive approach must be used constantly because “no” is “triggering and traumatising.” No no, this is the result, a teenager willing to shove a teacher.

I know it’s not the majority really, but it certainly feels like it sometimes.

Would depend another staff member witnessed it.
If no one would back you up then fuck all.
