Catch 22 for a job

So I quit my job in accountancy. It was boring for me and not fulfilling. I had my son and 3 years ago I quit and went to university to study psychology. Along the way I decided I'd like to work with children so have had some volunteer roles in schools and tailored my modules towards children. Now I'm about to graduate in a few months and most if not all jobs state I need a level 2 or 3 in the relevant area eg. Young children. To get this qualification I need a job working with children but I can't see how they will without this qualification?

So any advice on how to get a job as a teaching assistant or pastoral assistant without these level 2 or 3 qualifications?

Not all TA jobs require qualifications. (Though it is possible this has changed).

Special Needs schools are often short of staff.

You could try a Supply Agency....they can usually place people.

Alternatively, you could try a Cover Supervisor role.

Lots of secondary schools often advertise for graduate assistants....

Eteach can be a good place to look for local vacancies.

Also, look at websites of schools in your area. They don't always advertise all vacancies.

Good luck

Oh people are crying our for TA's. You'd be fine. Your currently qualifications are more than equal to a level 2/3 and that's all you need, in my experience anyway. At my school we have some great staff members who are highly qualified in different fields.

My daughter managed to get an agency TA role last year with no previous experience. Be careful what agency you choose though, some charge high fees. Not sure what for exactly!

If you were an accountant, you're presumably intelligent with decent exam results. Coupled with your work experience, I'd interview you on that basis alone if I were a head. Some of the applicants we get are dire.

Just apply to some places you fancy and state that you don't have the qualifications yet but are willing to work towards them on the job.
There's a massive shortage at the moment so you'll get a job without a problem.
