At what point would you stop chasing a school?

Applied for a role in a school I visited. I had issues with the application from the start. Couldn’t download it, emailed the hr department, no response.

I rang the school, spoke to the receptionist and explained the issue, and I was met with “I don’t know what the actual issue is here” then was transferred to someone else, who seemed like they were in a huge rush to get me off the phone.

I finally found the application, sent it off, heard nothing back. I’m really tempted to ring again and ask if there are any updates, but I don’t want to look overly desperate, should I leave it?

Yes just leave it now, to be honest all of that palaver would have completely put me off working in the school.

I have had similar experiences. I did not follow up beyond two queries. To me that tells me all I need to know about the efficacy of the school.

It has! It’s caused an unbelievable amount of frustration, I went to the trouble of completing all the necessary documentation, yet, nothing!

Agreed! Maybe they also didn’t like me! I suppose that could be a factor too!

They might not like you based on the very little they know about you…which also says a lot about the school.
I think it’s also very easy to imagine yourself in certain schools when the reality of working there can be very different.
Theres lots of work out there. Keep applying for things but update your Linked In and other social media.

If you've been shortlisted, you'll hear. If not, you won't. We don't acknowledge applications received.

The standard norm to be honest. If you haven’t heard back then unfortunately not successful.
I wouldn’t waste anymore time or energy into a school or a workplace for that fact that has no interest in hiring you.

I think this approach is awful tbh, School’s require long complicated forms but cba to send a generic, one-line email saying thanks but no thanks...just why?

I assume because we simply don't have the manpower to do it.
I'm not saying it's right; just that that's how it is.

I completely appreciate that, but it’s not a great look when a candidate chases an employer. It actually put me off in the end, it would have been great to secure an interview there as I quite liked the school. However, the rigmarole of chasing them with no return, proved fruitless and I have now given up. I felt as though I was bothering them by simply asking for the application form! I was rushed off the phone, they told me to ring TES, TES didn’t give a flying hoot! I sent the application, heard nothing back! Alas, maybe it wasn’t meant to be!!

Maybe they sized me up on the day I visited and thought “nah”. Oh well, better luck next time!!
