Using personal laptops to work

I’ve heard a lot of debate on this one, many people at work say “we never use our personal laptops to work” now I don’t know if I’ve missed something, but I always use my personal laptop to work. I just like it, it feels better to work on.

Although I now need to complete some lessons that require me to watch my Y8 students perform a poem and mark them, however, that would mean I’d need to download that to my own laptop first and I’m not sure how I feel about that?

Should I wait till I get back to work?

To add - the reason I need to do it is because my data deadline is tomorrow and I want to get through the last 3 but I don’t like the idea of having to download the performance to watch! Particularly because it’s my personal laptop!!

You shouldn’t really be using personal laptops anyway?

Oh no really? Why?

Does the school provide you with a laptop? If so, I would use that to watch the performances.

If you're a desktop school, then obviously you have to use personal devices to complete work. I'd ask your HoD for their opinion. If they say you can't, then explain the data won't be ready until X date.

You could find yourself in a tricky GDPR situation if you have saved pupil data or work onto a personal laptop which doesn’t comply with your school’s security policies.

Oh sugar, okay. I left it and didn’t bother as I felt odd having that information on my personal laptop.
