Hi,

was wondering if anyone could help me. Applied to work in a school outside my borough. Passed interview. Got the job. Can I register my child to the school too as I will be working there?

It will all be in the school’s admission policy

Mcadbury · 25/04/2023 17:41

it says two years. Can the school decide? Or do they have to follow the admissions policy? Has anyone else been in this situation?

What do you mean? It says two years

no the school absolutely can not overrule the published admissions policy

Mcadbury · 25/04/2023 18:13

It says you need to be working at the school for two years or

the teacher has been recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skills shortage.

can I be classed as the second criteria?

the teacher has been recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skills shortage.

what role have you been recruited for?

Mcadbury · 25/04/2023 19:01

Hi @Youheshetheysaid thanks for your replies. Its just a class teacher role with subject leader.

Unlikely then

careerchange456 · 25/04/2023 19:11

Is the year group you need actually full?

Hi @Youheshetheysaid thanks for your replies. Its just a class teacher role with subject leader.

Subject leader for what? If it's e.g. Maths, I think you could argue it.

Is the year group full? If not, then the oversubscription criteria don't apply anyway.

If it is full, then you would need to wait for a space to come up, and there might be a child further up the waiting list than yours?

Is there are particular reason you want your child at this school?

Mcadbury · 25/04/2023 19:23

Its nursery iv applied for. Subject lead for either maths or reading.

Sorry forgot to mention nursery is not full.

careerchange456 · 25/04/2023 19:33

If the nursery is not full you'll get a place in the nursery class.

When you come to apply for reception, you'll have to look at this year's data to see whether they were oversubscribed this year and if so, how far the furthest person who was allocated a place lives from the school. Then make a decision about whether it's worth applying.

Can't imagine maths or reading leader at primary is a shortage. If you didn't take it on they'd just force it on somebody else in the school or the head would have to do it so I'm not sure that would fulfil the criteria.

My children go to my school and I had to apply by the normal process with no mention of teachers on the admissions criteria. We live a long way from the school so I was just fortunate that the class wasn't full that year so one DC got in. Then my second was a sibling placing him higher on the admissions criteria so that was ok too.

@careerchange456 thank you. Thats useful to know. Lucky you! Now just got to wait and see what they say

Hiya,

wondering if anyone can help me..

We are in the early stages of moving to a new area, we haven’t found anywhere and still not sure on an exact area. Trouble is my 3yo daughter will be starting school Sept 2024, (this is my eldest so this is all so new to me!) but if we have to apply for schools by January and we haven’t found a house what do we do?
If we find a house during 2024 can we still apply for a school place during the year and just hope they have spaces?

And do I still apply for local schools to me now too? We are hoping to have moved by September but just not sure how it all works!!

it’s all so confusing and alot to take in!

thank you for any help and advice given,

x

Hi @MannMumma89. You've posted on an old thread in the 'staffroom'. You will get more responses if you start a new thread in 'primary education', but to answer your question you need to apply by 15 January for a place in the new area giving your old address, and then provide the local authority with proof of your new address as soon as you have it. If you do not meet this deadline your application will be processed as 'late' after everyone else has been allocated a space. If something happens to delay your move and you don't think you will be in the new area for September 2024 then you need to apply for places in your current area.

I know it's stressful but these are hard deadlines. One thing in your favour is that your daughter is in a fairly low birth rate year so there won't be quite as much competition for places as there was five years ago, and you might be lucky and get a late place at the school you like. Renting can be quicker than buying if that is an option to get you into the new area by January, with a view to buying later, but this obviously depends on your plans and finances.

Oh gosh sorry 😂 I’m new to this site and wasn’t sure!!

but thank you so much for replying. I will put it up somewhere else.

thank you again x
