Not sure if this is in the right space, but just to share a survey that’s been knocking around on Twitter - a 5 min survey about what schools need professional development to concentrate on.

Organised by the National Institute of Teaching

I wish it would go back to individual professional development. Not sure if others schools are the same but since covid we don’t get to choose our professional development. Of course SLT like to claim we are being given a choice but in reality when the choice is reading, writing or oracy then it’s not really a choice. If I don’t know how to teach those areas after 20 years then surely I should give up now! There’s nothing new in any of these courses either. Then there’s the email that comes around asking you to let SLT know if you have any training needs for the response to be either; the head won’t pay for you to go or you can go but you have to ask your poor, stressed, overworked colleagues to cover.
It all comes down to the ongoing issue of lack of funding. Gone are the days when you could find a course that would genuinely help you improve as a teacher, apply to attend and know that supply would be provided.
