Resourced provision or SENCo

Which would take you further in your career?

I'm feeling really torn at the moment as I am being offered a potential resourced provision job within my current school but I'm also starting to look at SENCo roles.

Resourced provision job would not pay as much. I've currently worked with our resourced provision this year but it is still very new. But there is some possible SENco experience alongside. (Although not sure current SENCo is aware that I've been offered it!).

I have found a deputy SENCo role which is perfect for non experienced SENCos. However they are only paying MPS. (Although this could be a potential payrise as this school is in London fringe and my current school isn't). But it makes me wonder if that's normal. They will sponsor me through the qualification but are in no rush and do see the deputy being in class lots to model things, team teach and aid with planning, whereas the SENco would be more strategic.

I am really interested in both but don't know which one I want more.

Also the deputy SENco role is definitely going to happen in that school (though of course there is an application process) the resourced provision is not yet 100% certain

Does anyone have any pointers?

Teaching in RP is not really a career move. You are too special for mainstream and not special enough for special (on your CV).

I run (and teach in) RP because I want to have direct input with children. SENCo/ Inclusion Lead is really just paperwork and endless meetings. It is more of a mainstream career stepping stone though, if that is what you are after.

What's your current school SENCO like? Likely to leave any time soon?

As above, RP teaching is a less obvious way to move up in SEN (though it would be great experience). But deputy SENCo is only a step up if it might lead somewhere. Would you be able to work towards NASENCo in the role?

The SENCo role is more fruitful. You can still have opportunities to do many RP type teaching /planning/support.
