WFH ... how much of a reality?

Hi,

Just trying to get an idea of how flexible teaching can really be. I know a couple of people with TLRs who have been able to negotiate a day to work from home.
Is this a reality in your place of work? Asking for a friend ;)

What tlr do they have? I'm a HoD and still wouldn't have enough free periods to get a full day off. Also timetabling would be very difficult to get all the frees together. It might be easier in primary when you get your PPA together, but from what I've heard from friends in primary, they need to be with colleagues for shared planning, and to do photocopying etc. for the subject they lead. A colleague of mine gets to do school drop off for her kids but she doesn't get paid for form time, that's the only time I've heard of flexibility.

I can work from home for my PPA time but not my TLR. PPA is half a day and in reality it's easier to be in school where the copier is.

Sorry, I know this would be the case in a lot of primaries but the bit about photocopying for the subject we lead made me chuckle - every bit of photocopying for every moment of the day in all subjects I have to do myself.

Absolutely no chance in my secondary. I asked to WFH a day a week in the summer term when I had no lessons (because exam classes had gone). It was a flat no.

TLR 2a and in a secondary, it's funny how some schools can be so flexible and others...Hmm
Might see if I can settle and come in at registration, I don't have a form group and it'll be nice to get to my own kids school drop offs from time to time.

I also don't have a form. It would still be a no.

I can technically WHF during my PPA morning but although it's nice to have that little bit of flexibility, in reality I rarely do because there's too many "in school" jobs to do.

A local college has switched all staff to a 4 day week, they all now have a day at home. So it's possible, but it would need a whole school approach.
