20 min maths interview

Hi I have an interview this week to teach a class of 30 year 4 children a maths lesson. It can only be 20 mins long so I am struggling with what to do to fit into this time. I have thought of a code breaker using addition (no exchange) but I am not sure if this will be too complicated. I have seen some ideas where people have done a code breaker but the numbers also represent a letter and as a result the answers will spell a word. I am just concerned with the time on this one that is all. Does anyone have any other ideas? Maths isnt my strong point, usually for interviews I teach an English/Reading lesson so any ideas would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Addition with no exchange would be too easy for year 4 at this time of year. Start with the objective you want to teach and check with the national curriculum whether it is the correct level. 20 mins isn't very long so a problem solving activity would probably be best. Nrich has lots of good ones. It is probably worth checking the school website to find their maths curriculum map. It will give you an idea what they are learning at the moment. Addition is usually taught in the autumn term.

I am a year 4 teacher and we are doing fractions at the moment. Adding and subtracting them. Converting improper fractions to mixed numbers and vice versa. recently we have done perimeter including when a length is missing. PP is correct year 4 do no exchange and exchange before Christmas.

20 mins is not long. I would split it to input, task, then input, task. Include a do now/flashback at the beginning, a talk task, and a multi-choice question for a plenary.
