Dyslexia Assessment as a career option

Hello, I wondered if anyone can advise me? I have QTS and years of primary teaching experience, excellent educational qualifications prior to that. I did a Level 5 SpLD during lockdown, as a springboard to returning to work as I was on maternity leave - well I had left my teaching position.

I have wondered about going on to do the Level 7 to qualify as a Dyslexia Assessor however I really don’t want to spend lots of money if the field is saturated with assessors. As it’s all private practise I am finding it very obscure - I cannot work out how much employment there is out there. I had an interview for a frankly badly paid position in a school as a learning support tutor and didn’t get it this week. Apparently there were many many applications and experienced
candidates. Which has made me a little alarmed about committing to the level 7.

I wonder if I may be better off returning to the classroom as a mainstream teacher?

id really appreciate any insight anyone can offer.

with many thanks!!

What about returning as a SENDCO - for primary or secondary?
Does your level 5 qualification mean you can screen for dyslexia?

Have you looked at private schools? The primary private school near us has a dyslexic specialist who goes in to give weekly, separate lessons to dyslexic children.
