Is anyone happy?

I’m leaving my job this summer to relocate. Wondering whether I should be looking at different jobs altogether or take a risk in another school. So unhappy in my current school. Is anyone happy in theirs?

My daughter is in her first year as an ECT so obviously doesn't have much to compare it with, but is extremely happy.

She feels valued and supported by the management team and other teachers, and appreciated by her students (all of whom are in the 6th form).

She was also very happy at the school where she did most of her training last year.

I don't know whether she has been extremely lucky, or whether some teachers who post here are just very unlucky!

I am happy-ish, although funding cuts are maybe going to impact that for September.

I'm much happier than I was in my previous school.

I do think if you haven't moved schools for a while, it's worth trying. Some are definitely better than others.

Hi OP, I moved six months ago and got a job teaching in the most horrible school I could imagine. I was constantly sworn at and had things thrown at me. Overall behaviour management from slt was very weak.
I left at Christmas and now thankfully am again working in an amazing school, if things don't work out well just hang in there until something else comes up

Currently, yes.
Management genuinely care about the staff and listen to us. The staff are friendly and the school is laid back EG you are free to go home at whatever time you like as long as your work gets done.
It isn't perfect but it's a happy place to work and I feel lucky.
We get a new head in September and are working towards becoming an academy too so this may not last 😬

I’m switching schools at Easter - the last couple of weeks I’ve felt unhappy and like I’ve lost the will to try, but I’m really hoping that I’ll be able to refresh over Easter and start the new job with enthusiasm.

Same here pretty much!

Yes. Working part time in a 2 form entry school where workload is shared and generally happy.

I love the rural, small school I work in with a small class and nice kids and parents. I'm worried about redundancy from falling pupil numbers though.

Newrumpus · 12/03/2023 20:04

Yeah generally happy.

WeAreAllLionesses · 12/03/2023 20:20

I am happy now my awful LM has left.

People (more than processes) make or break a school IMO.

tfh · 13/03/2023 21:14

Yes you can be happy in the right school. Think about what is making you unhappy in your current school and what exactly would you be looking for at a new place?

TortolaParadise · 13/03/2023 22:13

I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. A change is coming.

EllaB22 · 13/03/2023 22:22

Yes v happy at my school. Supportive Head. Some workplace politics but I stay far away from it!
