Business Degree teaching economics

I’m just wondering if a degree in Business will be enough to teach Economics A level? Or would a SKE be necessary? Or an economics degree? Will this differ between state and indie?

If you're willing to do it, no-one will care! At a school I know of, they don't have a single Economics specialist but they are teaching the GCSE and A-level courses.

There's a huge amount of good quality self-study material available for Economics too. Look at Tutor2u.

I think the independent sector could be more picky, but if they teach Business you'd be perceived as a Business specialist and join a team where someone else taught Economics A-level.

If you're asking about training as an Economics teacher, it doesn't really exist. Schools can train teachers on the job but Economics is often offered only at KS5 which creates a problem, as to get qualified you need to teach two adjacent key stages. I had to teach RS!

It's tricky...

I don't think there even is a SKE for Economics. I think they're only offered for National Curriculum subjects. I volunteered for a while with the Access Project and they had a fantastic set of materials. You could consider volunteering with them to build knowledge. It takes an hour a week in termtime, you can do it online and you don't have to be a teacher.

I did it to assuage my conscience while working in the independent sector, but for an aspiring teacher it would be a great idea and also would help a student.
