Insurance Cover for Teachers

Was just wondering what is the best route for teachers to get legal cover in case of allegations or other issues related to their work?

Do people get cover through their union or are there other insurers? New to teaching and working in an independent so I haven't joined a union yet.

Join a union. Being in an indie makes no difference. Join a union ASAP.

@ElegantPuma any recommendations for which one if the main reason for joining is insurance/advice if ever needed?

Has anyone used edapt?

I recommend joining the union which is most active in your school

You want to join a union who has a rep in your school- that way you can get immediate support if any problems arise, and the rep will be familiar with your school systems.

But if you're ideologically against unions, Edapt is probably your next best option.

@TerenceTurtle as PPs have said, join the union with the strongest presence in your school. Do it ASAP - you never know when you'll need assistance. In the old days you weren't allowed out on placement until you'd joined a union.

Thanks all. I don't think there is a union presence in my school. I will ask around after half term but have gone for edapt in the interim.
